Hi Kunsmiller Families,
My name is Mr. Lopez, and I am excited and fortunate to be part of the Kunsmiller community!
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Growing up and attending school in Los Angeles, I learned early on the importance of education and the powerful role it can play in changing students’ lives and, ultimately, changing the world. In 2011, I moved from sunny Southern California to Denver, Colorado.
I began my educational career at Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy (KCAA). After spending time at KCAA, I left for several years to serve as a Dean of Culture and Assistant Principal at Strive Prep and Rocky Mountain Prep charter schools. I am incredibly happy and fortunate to have had the opportunity to return to this amazing community. I am now entering my third year as a member of the administrative team here at KCAA.
Throughout my career in education, I have had the opportunity to work with both Denver Public Schools and the Colorado Department of Human Services, including the Division of Youth Services. These experiences have helped shape my approach to education and strengthened my commitment to supporting students and families.
I hold both a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and a Master of Science (MS) degree. I have also completed all of the requirements for a doctoral program except for my dissertation, which I plan to complete in the near future.
Outside of school, I am married and have two children and a dog. One of my children is currently in college, while the other is in elementary school. I enjoy spending time with my family, especially watching Star Wars and Marvel movies with my kids. I am also a huge Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Dodgers fan!
I am grateful to be part of the Kunsmiller family and look forward to another great year of learning, growth, and community together.
