Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and develop skills they will use throughout their careers. CTE prepares students for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies, and makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context. CTE is a great way for students to explore a variety of career options early and earn industry certifications prior to graduation. KCAA offers three CTE pathways:
Audio and video production involves creating, recording, editing, and producing movies, TV shows, videos, and live events. It’s a blend of creative and technical work that brings stories and events to life. See the Audio and Video Production page under the Visual Arts tab for more information.
Graphic design is the craft of planning and creating visual content to communicate ideas and messages. Graphic design is everyone you look in the digital age — from billboards to cereal boxes to mobile apps. See the Graphic Design and Illustration and Commercial Photography pages under the Visual Arts tab for more information.
Technical theatre involves all the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating a live theatre production. This includes everything from lighting and sound to set construction, choreography, and costume design. See the Stagecraft and Technical Theatre page under the Performing Arts tab for more information.
