Dr. Johanna J. Strong

Dr. Strong is a native of Virginia Beach, VA. She is the daughter of 2 retired educators from  whom she developed a respect for the profession and its tremendous impact on the lives of  children. She has one brother who is a physician in Suffolk, VA.

Johanna graduated from Norfolk State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology Education  and started her teaching career in 1998. During college, she acquired a love for medical science  and decided to go back to school to earn a graduate certification in Surgical Assistance from  Eastern Virginia Medical School and worked for several years as a Surgical First Assistant.  Eventually, returning to the classroom, she continued her education and received a Master of  Science degree in Educational Administration & Supervision from Regent University and a  Doctorate in Educational Management and Leadership from Capella University.

Dr. Strong moved to Atlanta, GA in 2007 and worked in several school districts teaching various  science courses such as Biotechnology, Medical Science, Chemistry, Biology, and more. While  instilling a love of science in her students, she also began to develop a strong pedagogical skillset to  reach the most challenging learner and began to support other educators endeavoring to do the  same. She served as department chair, as instructional facilitator, as district academic coach, as  Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and currently serves as a principal in Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy.

In addition to being a lover of science, Dr. Strong is a lover of music and a vocalist married to a  musician/producer. She understands how important it is to incorporate students’ passions into their everyday learning and it is her vision that in every institution she serves, she ensures that learning is relevant and engaging thus increasing retention and a growing thirst for knowledge. Her  ability to develop a team focused on the same goals is outstanding, ensuring that every child is  successful. One of her many quotes is “Every child will be successful. Some take a straight flight  while others take the scenic route. Either way, it’s our job to drive them to their destination!”

Dr. Strong and her husband have a blended family of 9 children and have recently celebrated the  birth of their first grandchild. She regards each of her students as an extension of her family and  abides by three words whether at work or at home: consistency, accountability, and grace. It is her  strong belief that these concepts working together will yield the desired educational results in every  scholar.
