Diana D. Howard, Ph. D.,
Principal
Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy's principal, Dr.
Diana Howard, is dedicated to creating learning environments that
nurture the courage to imagine and achieve. With a doctorate
in Gifted
Education and Administration from the University of Denver, Dr. Howard
has been a principal for 13 years in Boulder and Denver. She
also
holds a Master's Degree in Library Science from Syracuse University,
and is very involved in building outstanding school
libraries. She
taught and was a school librarian for 20 years before becoming a
principal, with her first assignment in Uruguay with the Peace
Corps.
She was also a Fulbright Scholar in Ghana, and both her Peace Corps
years and the time in Ghana richly flavor what she brings to students
in her schools. She has taught graduate courses at the
University of
Denver and Emporia State University, and currently teaches The
Psychology of Gifted and Talented each summer at the University of
Colorado, Denver campus. Dr. Howard is a frequent speaker for
many
organizations, often focusing on the need for arts in education, great
books for children of all ages, and the needs of young gifted
students. She last created Polaris at Ebert, a highly
successful DPS
magnet school in Northeast
Denver.
Gregory Isaac, Assistant
Principal
Greg Isaac is known for bringing humor to
teaching and creating emotionally safe learning environments for his
students. Mr. Isaac served with Dr.
Howard at Polaris-Ebert Elementary,
where he enjoyed tormenting fourth grade students for the last
four
years. At Polaris he taught "Cartoon Club" and led
the fourth grade on
yearly trips to Mesa Verde and Crow Canyon Archeological
Center. Mr.
Isaac earned his Master's degree in Educational Administration
from the
University of Nebraska and served as principal for a private K-8 in
Parker for four years. He holds a B.A. in History from Azusa Pacific
University in Southern California. Mr. Isaac taught in
England at the
American Community School in Egham, Surrey, and received certification
in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. The Isaac
family lives in SW Denver and participates in recreation
center
programs at Athmar Park. Mr. Isaac is married to a very
patient woman,
and the Isaac family has four children, ages 10-5, two of whom are
adopted from Africa. He enjoys talking too much,
reading too much,
swimming, and playing a variety of sports with his kids.
