Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy's principal, Dr. Diana Howard, is dedicated to creating learning environments that nurture the courage to imagine and achieve.  With a doctorate in Gifted Education and Administration from the University of Denver, Dr. Howard has been a principal for 13 years in Boulder and Denver.  She also holds a Master's Degree in Library Science from Syracuse University, and is very involved in building outstanding school libraries.  She taught and was a school librarian for 20 years before becoming a principal, with her first assignment in Uruguay with the Peace Corps.  She was also a Fulbright Scholar in Ghana, and both her Peace Corps years and the time in Ghana richly flavor what she brings to students in her schools.  She has taught graduate courses at the University of Denver and Emporia State University, and currently teaches The Psychology of Gifted and Talented each summer at the University of Colorado, Denver campus.  Dr. Howard is a frequent speaker for many organizations, often focusing on the need for arts in education, great books for children of all ages, and the needs of young gifted students.  She last created Polaris at Ebert, a highly successful DPS magnet school in Northeast Denver.
